EDE Ängsbacka

Programme Description

We are excited to welcome you to the first ever EDE in Sweden and warmly invite you to join us on a journey towards personal, social and planetary thriving! Join us for 31 days of co-creating a vibrant learning community, diving deeply into community-based tools for regeneration and designing projects for both personal and planetary transformation.

The Ängsbacka EDE embraces a whole-systems view of change and focuses on tools and approaches that encourage personal, social and planetary resilience and well-being. For us, all three levels of the system are important. To have positive impact – understand the system you work in and learn tools for transformation. If you are a changemaker, self-care is a political act. To co-create the world we believe in, caring for each other and creating resilient circles that hold and restore us is part of the beautiful and necessary work we do. In the Ängsbacka EDE, we will work with all these levels, and make them an active part of our designs and the way we are together.

Ängsbacka is a magical Swedish countryside course and festival centre surrounded by farmlands, forests and lakes. For 20 years the people and the programmes have been serving our vision …”to explore how human beings together can consciously create the life they desire on earth, and to demonstrate paths to sustainable development, well-being, and harmony”. Thousands of individuals have over the years harvested the fruits of our heartfelt work. We hosted the European Ecovillage Conference in 2017, are in the process of designing our village in the forest based on permaculture principles and are starting to create an ecovillage close by. Hosting an Ecovillage Design Education course will truly deepen our intention and allow us to build a stronger network and to connect and work alongside people that share our vision. We believe this will have a huge impact on our ability to continue to be a source of inspiration to many in the years to come. For sure, you are joining our community at an interesting time and we look forward to getting to know you.

Current and Future EDE Programmes

What is an EDE (Ecovillage Design Education programme)?

Change Agents

Ecovillage Design Education programmes, often referred to as ‘EDEs’, take place in more than 48 countries in settings ranging from tribal and traditional communities to intentional ecovillages, from urban slums to universities and training centres. The duration of these programmes are around 125 hours over a full month, although this may vary slightly depending on where and when they are taken. The EDEs provide participants of all ages with the knowledge and practical skills to design a society which uses energy and materials with greater efficiency, distributes wealth fairly and strives to eliminate the concept of waste.

How to run an EDE

Run a EDE Programme

Several of our EDE graduates have carried on organising EDE programmes in their local areas, and you are warmly encouraged to do so after completing your course.

The recommended time frame of an EDE is four weeks, however this is not fixed and varies with each individual programme.

The material can be condensed into smaller workshops, spread out over a longer period, or distributed in blocks at different times and locations.
